Manpreet Singh, the caption of the Indian senior hockey team, is one of the most important players in this present lineup, and he is an inevitable player of this decade.

Manpreet Singh was born in a farmer's family in Mithapur in near Jalandhar. It is said that he mastered hockey stick early than a pencil.
His two elder siblings are also well-known hockey players. He was fascinated by the prizes his siblings won.
However, the main reason he chooses hockey as his profession was Pargat Singh, the Indian teams' caption at that time and he also hailed from Jalandhar, and currently, Pargat Singh is a DSP there.
Manpreet was very passionate about hockey. When he was ten years old, he won rs 500 in a hockey match, and this victory made his mother believe him more, and later on, he joined a hockey academy.

In 2005, Manpreet Singh was admitted to the Surjit hockey academy, Jalandhar. When it comes to producing national hockey talents, this academy comes at number one. It has created many national hockey players, and this institute is named after Indian olympian Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa.
Family:
Manpreet's family has 5 members; alongside his father and mother, he has two elder brothers, Amandeep and Sukhraj, who are also well-established hockey players. They also encouraged him to play hockey.
Manpreet got engaged with Pakistani born Malaysian girl Illi Najwa Siddiqui; he met her after one of his matches in the sultan johar cup. She comes in his every match to cheer him.

Sports Career(Junior)
He made his debut for the junior national Indian team in 2011.
In 2013's Men's hockey junior world cup, he was named the caption of the junior Indian national men's hockey team.
Under his captainship, India won gold in the sultan johar cup, which was held in 2013. In the finals, India won against Malaysia 0-3, in which Manpreet also scored a goal.
In 2014, Manpreet Singh was named as junior player of the year by the Asian hockey federation.

He made his debut for the senior Indian men's hockey team in 2016. He played in a men's hockey championship trophy, in which India won the silver medal after a defeat from Australia in the finals with 3-1. India broke their record 38 years in that tournament.
In the same year, Manpreet was named to the India squad for Summer Olympics.
On 18th May, he was named the India hockey team's caption as PR shreejesh was injured, and he replaced him as the caption for the upcoming world league semifinals.
Since then, he is the caption of the India team till now.
Most Crucial Moment
On January 6, a few hours before the start of the match between India and japan of sultan Azlan shah cup, which India lost by 2-1, he obtained the information of his father's unexpected demise.
So he went back to India to perform the final rituals and cremation. Australian players showed respect and performed two minutes of silence for his father and wore black bands while playing. India lost that match.
Manpreet came back before the important game against Pakistan, which India won and Manpreet himself scored a goal. India ends that tournament with a silver medal.
